I recently had the pleasure of being invited to a trip to Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. Myself and a few other destination wedding planners enjoyed a few days of sight-seeing so we could re-discover the island.
Our day started with having lunch at Tijuana’s at Old San Juan with a sunny view of the bay. Next, we all meet with Acevedo Tours & Executive Transport at El Paseo de La Princesa in Old San Juan so we could start our adventure! Needless to say, we were all very excited!
We started our way down to Cabo Rojo (which is located in the south west of Puerto Rico) while making a few stops along the way. Our first stop was at Lechonera Los Amigos at Guavate where you can find some authentic Puerto Rican food. Once we got back on the we all just sat back and enjoyed the natural beauty of island while we all shared stories of how we got started in the wedding and social event industry. We spent the next few hours chatting away and having a great time.
Once we arrived at Combate in Cabo Rojo we were greeted by the owners of Combate Beach where we would be staying during our tour. Once on the property, we were taken on a site inspection of the grounds and then checked into our rooms. We were able to enjoy an exquisite sunset and a beautiful ocean view. Later we got together for a succulent dinner and during a presentation of Combate Beach and the services they offer to future clients.
After a restful night in a comfy room I woke-up bright and early the next day to enjoy an early morning workout on the beach with an enviable view of the ocean. It spectacular! It actually looked like a painting – so calm and with perfect colors. You could see the sun and ocean near the vegetation on the other side. After breakfast we met for presentation from the Municipality of Cabo Rojo. There, we received so much information about all the historic places to visit and wonderful places to eat that the town offers for a destination event. Like beaches, haciendas, and ancient sites to name a few.
After the presentation a really cool tropical bus named “EL FARO” picked us up to head to “Los Morillos Light House” which is one of the most popular attractions in Cabo Rojo .
On our way there we stopped to admire the Salt Flats, Cabo Rojo an eco-attraction which was added to the Cabo Rojo Wild Refuge in 1999 – I didn’t even know there were salt flats in Puerto Rico! Next, we arrived at the Faro Los Morillos (Light House). It’s located 200 foot from limestone cliffs with a view to the Caribbean Sea. The Light house was built in 1881 by the Spanish Government that had settled there.
The light house was all set up for our visit with different local vendors for us to meet like cake bakers, decor, photographers, chef, designers, transport, rentals etc. We had the opportunity to see their work and get their contacts information for future events. The Morillos Light House is a perfect venue for a wedding ceremony since it has a panoramic and breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea.
I was so in love with the area and the blueness from the Playuela. I didn’t want to leave! There were so many more places I wanted to go see. So later in the day we took off Mar Azul Mediterráneo Restaurant where they made us a few local seafood specialities. After lunch, we had the privilege to meet the mayor of Cabo Rojo the at the town hall. We were happy to meet him and have the opportunity to thank him and his staff for the invitation and all the planning the made for us.
Across the street from the Town Hall was the “Teatro Excelsior” an historic movie theater. It’s a cultural experience to go to the movies in Cabo Rojo right in the center of the town. Can’t wait to take my family and enjoy it together!
On our way home, we had our last stop at Pito’s Sea Food Café & Restaurant with a perfect sunset to have dinner. It was a great and happy experience to be able to spend time with my colleagues and enjoy our island. Puerto Rico has so many beautiful things to offer tourist for their weddings, special events and for their vacations. No wonder they call Puerto Rico the Island of Enchantment! I really enjoyed every moment of this trip and I can’t wait to tell my future clients all the adventures they could have and create memories in Puerto Rico!
